Gospel
Luke 7:31-35
31 Jesus said to the crowds: “To what shall I compare the people of this generation? What are they like? 32 They are like children who sit in the marketplace and call to one another, ‘We played the flute for you, but you did not dance. We sang a dirge, but you did not weep.’ 33 For John the Baptist came neither eating food nor drinking wine, and you said, ‘He is possessed by a demon.’ 34 The Son of Man came eating and drinking and you said, ‘Look, he is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ 35 But wisdom is vindicated by all her children.”
God speaks through different voices—John’s severity and Jesus’ compassion. Beware of spiritual stubbornness. Wisdom is proven by its fruit, look at the lives transformed, not just the methods used. Be open to uncomfortable truth. Sometimes God’s message challenges our comfort zones.
In most cases if not all, we just want to hear things that pleases us and ignore things that dampens our spirit. What is ironic is that if we are on the other side of the equation, we also easily see and perceive the negative side of other people as if we are always on the right side of things. What is hurting we ignore or brush aside, what is pleasing we uphold and take pride.
Jesus is the truth, and He will always speak the truth. His words should not be taken with a negative thought if it does not suiit our taste buds. All His words of wisdom are meant to bring us to righteousness, holiness, and perfection. It may taste bitter at first but it will surely taste sweet and delicious in the end.
Lord Jesus, You are the way, the truth, and the life. No one goes to the Father except through You.
Please help me to always be open to Your wisdom and truth even if it hurts. Yes Lord, I do confess that I am equally guilty of only wanting hear what pleasing to my ear and usually resent negative things about myself. Lift me up to higher ground so that I may not be drowned by the callous of the world but instead live to be like You who is full of love, mercy, empathy, and compassion.
Thank You so much for Your life in me that moves me to go forward and not backwards. To boldly go in the pursuit of truth and justice even if it means going out of my comfort zone. Truly, life is not about me but it is all about You who is the very life in me. All glory, honor, and praise are Yours now and forever. Amen.
